I believe in less. Take away until it breaks, then put back one thing. How something is made speaks before a word is read, so this page is quiet on purpose. I work with what's at hand, the way Carver did: a plain page, plain words, nothing you can't copy.

I'm a critic because I care. I try to be the Baldwin kind, who looks straight, says the true thing and says it with love, and I try to write with my heart in it, as Angelou did.
